About the Author
Isabel Atherton is an author, literary agent, and director of Creative Authors, Ltd. When she is not helping her authors, she likes to write illustrated books herself. She is the author of Zombie Cat, an illustrated adult humor book, plus two more picture books coming in 2014.

Stephanie Rohr is a French illustrator and creative. She earned a distinction from ECV Paris (Art and Design Communication School). Her mother is a nursery and primary school headmistress, so she grew up surrounded by children's books. This, in turn, has led her to have a passion for picture book illustrations. She loves funny, playful, happy, or even a bit dark and silly stories. These themes are a real playground for her unique style. Her first book, Count the Sheep to Sleep, was published by Sky Pony Press.

My daughter loves this story!

I bought this for my 5 year old daughter before Easter. Since we received it we have read it at least 20 times. She really likes it and I like that it shows how important saying Thank You really is. I definitely recommend this book.

Cute!

After hauling his huge sack of candy to town, only to have the children greedily grab at it and knock him down, the Easter Bunny has had enough. Red-hot with anger, he declares himself the Bad Easter Bunny (BEB for short), and destroys his goodies. Then he runs through the town doing bad things. What will it take to transform BEB back into the nice bunny he used to be? Maybe the kindness of one little girl.

Anger and retaliation, repentance and forgiveness, and gratitude are all featured in The Bad Easter Bunny. Color also plays a part as BEB changes shades to match his moods. Ultimately, good overcomes evil, and BEB returns to his former generous self. As he finally realizes, "...being bad will not solve your problems and `thank you' are the nicest words in the world."

Good Children's Picture Book, But Not Maybe What You Were After if You Loved Zombie Cat: The Tale of a Decomposing Kitty

I loved Isabel Atherton's debut picture book Zombie Cat: The Tale of a Decomposing Kitty so immediately sought out this one. I was a little disappointed that this one is more of a what did we learn today kids type of picture than the dark humour of the former title. This one won't create any of the controversy of the former book, that's not necessarily a bad thing, it just might not be the type of book you assumed it would be after reading Zombie Cat. This is a simple plot where the Easter Bunny gets tired of being unappreciated and after being knocked over by a child snatching an egg, gets a little bit angry. As I mentioned there's nothing controversial that he gets up to while mad, just basically changing colour and smashing up his delivery thereby messing up the street. Based on my wrongful assumption of what sort of book this was going to be I had envisaged him making his own Easter eggs from what passes through him, wrapping them in coloured foil and leaving them for the kids or something but, no this remains a child and overprotective parent, friendly style of picture book.

The illustrations by Stephanie Rohr are very simple but work well with the basicness of the storyline. It's a good picture book, and I would recommend it to be read to small children who still believe in the magic of the long eared chocolate courier. It's as good as any of those books on the topic, but depending on why you bought it, it just may not be what you thought it would be.

41 n. Chr.“ mit diesem entscheidenden Aspekt befassen.
Nachdem der augusteische Principat in seinen Grundzügen kurz umrissen werden soll,
um in Abgrenzung zu seiner Herrschaft das veränderte Verhältnis Gaius zum Senat
besser herauszukristallisieren, werden im Anschluss daran die für die Arbeit relevanten
antiken Autoren vorgestellt. Denn auf Grundlage einer Auseinandersetzung mit den
Entstehungshintergründen der Werke soll eine genaue Analyse der Quellen in Hinblick
auf das Verhältnis zwischen dem Senat und dem Princeps vorgenommen werden.
Hierbei orientiert sich die Arbeit an der Chronologie der Ereignisse, um die Ursache-
Wirkungsprinzipien gezielt hervorzuheben. Angefangen mit dem Amtsantritt, bei dem
die Beteiligung der Senatoren beachtet werden soll, wird darauf aufbauend die frühe
Regierungspolitik erörtert und in Kontrast zu seiner späteren Herrschaft gesetzt. Hierbei
werden besonders die Hintergründe des Regierungswandels, sowie die Folgen für den
Senat und ihre Reaktion auf den Machtverlust näher analysiert. Abschließend folgt eine
Problematisierung der Beteiligung der Senatoren an der Ermordung Gaius.

great photos and lots of them

I grew up in Rock Island during the 50-60s. I had hoped to see more photos and stories about the Rock Island Depot . I remember as a youth watching people board the trains with conductors putting out step platforms for loading and unloading and porters loading bags and freight on pull carts. I did enjoy the history of its origins and how Lincoln was involved in the railroads early years. Bill Marvel is a good journalist and covered the factual aspects of the demise of the company well , but I recall his humor in newspaper articles he wrote and didnt see much of that in his book. Glad I bought it would suggest it to others who grew up in the railroad era.

A Story That Entralls and Disturbs

In this well-drafted study, David Nye provides the reader with the best historical analysis of American manufacturing since the publication of David Hounshell's FROM THE AMERICAN SYSTEM TO MASS PRODUCTION, 1800-1932 (1984). His use of the enormous documentary base that now exists on the rise of assembly-line production over the last century and his thorough examination of the origins and successive stages of that development are impressive and convincing. Nye has a unique gift to both inform and entertain as he covers the technical evolution of a process that came into existence in 1913 and has continued to adjust to new techniques. In addition to helping readers understand the technologies that shaped the assembly line, the author also provides insights into its cultural impact as seen in literature and the arts, particularly painting and photography. In ten chapters, Nye addresses the historical roots and context, Henry Ford's inaugural effort, spread of the process overseas, impact on workers, social and political criticism, Japanese reconfiguring of the assembly-line dynamic, and current efforts to confront the question of sustainability.

This last concern presents the greatest challenge to assembly-line technology. During the 100 years since the first Fords rolled off that original assembly line, the global impact of accelerated manufacturing, with its ever expanding need for natural resources and resulting pollution of the environment, remains a disturbing consequence that has not yet been really addressed. Nye acknowledges the problem when he writes: "The assembly line will have to be reconceived as far more than a physical arrangement of machines. It is the center of an entire cultural system that stretches far beyond the factory gates, including farms, iron and copper mines, rubber plantations, transportation networks, energy systems, steel mills, parts suppliers, the factory itself, banks, repair shops, recycling programs, and landfills." (p. 263) Here Nye functions as both historian and moralist as he concludes a book that recounts a development that has given the global human community so much material progress. Yet, at the same time, it has added to the creating of a possible environmental disaster which could undermine the very economic gains it has provided.

This is a book with powerful facts and a clear message. It should be on everyone's must-read list.

Unhappy but very useful work

Many writers of biographies "fall in love" with their subject. With David Nye, it is the opposite; he "hates" assembly lines as the result of comprehensive study about its evolvement since the introduction the Ford motor company in I913. The first 240 pages present in great detail the negative characteristics of assembly line work. He is right, work at assembly line is boring, repetitive and the worker is forced to complete a simple task in exactly, typically, one minute.

I recommend the reader, in order to keep all these bad aspects in their historical perspective, to read first reading the last chapter, 'Centenary', a brilliant description about what modern assembly lines are like to day and the need of further innovation There is a world of difference with the Ford assembly line.

In my view the author does not explain clearly enough why the assembly line has not disappeared after100 years. The main reason is logistics, getting all of the components to the assembler. The amount of materials that goes into building a car is enormous. To supply all of these parts to stationary workstations is almost impossible.

I must admit that, as a consultant, trained in the Taylor's principles of "Scientific Management", I have improved the performance of assembly lines in Sweden, Norway, Germany and the United Kingdom that led to substantial reductions in the man-hours used. This was not achieved by speeding up the assembly line but by organizing the work better. The methods used are quite well described in the last chapter. The work from a worker point of view became much less heavy by the use power tools and making most parts available within reaching distance. This was done already in 1963.

In my view the author assigns too much importance to assembly lines. It is only a very small part of all the work in the automotive industry. Increasing inequality is a problem but there are many other more important causes than the assembly line. The same is true about the effect of assembly line on unemployment. Maintaining useless tasks cannot solve the unemployment problems. It is also highly desirable that unhealthy work like paining cars is done by robots.

One should not forget that many other jobs are very boring and unpleasant too like digging potatoes on your knees in cold and rainy weather of which I have some personal experience. There are also many people that accept doing this undesirable work because it provides them and their family with an income.

The author correctly point out that important political leaders like Roosevelt and Obama are glorifying assembly line work. It does have an important impact but the work itself deals with human beings as if they are robots.

Overall I liked this book, even though I am still a kind of expert in assembly line development. It does present assembly line work in a broader useful perspective. The author also describes a way in which it can and should be developed to further reduce the negative aspects

Wie Unternehmen es besser machen können, zeigt die vorliegende Arbeit „Krisenkommunikation 2.0“. Sie untersucht und bewertet sowohl aus wissenschaftlicher wie auch aus praktischer Sicht verschiedene Kanäle der Onlinekommunikation hinsichtlich deren Eignung zur externen Kommunikation im Krisenfalle.
Die Autorin analysiert und systematisiert dazu im ersten Schritt die Merkmale verschiedener Internetdienste (WWW, Email etc.) sowie der gängigsten Kommunikationsplattformen (Social Communities, Weblogs, Microblogs etc.) und entwirft auf Basis aggregierter wissenschaftlicher Erkenntnisse anschließend ein Bewertungsraster, mit dessen Hilfe diese einzelnen Tools der Onlinekommunikation hinsichtlich ihres Einsatzes in Krisen bewertet werden.

Einige Tools der Onlinekommunikation erweisen sich dabei als deutlich besser geeignet als andere. Im empirischen Teil der Arbeit wird das von der Autorin entwickelte Bewertungsraster mit Experten der Online- und Krisenkommunikation diskutiert und finalisiert. In einem weiteren Forschungsschritt werden verschiedenste Unternehmen (u.a. DAX, SDAX, MDAX, KMU) zu deren tatsächlicher Nutzung von Onlinetools im Krisenfalle befragt.

Die Synopsis der Arbeit bildet auf Basis der theoretischen und empirischen Erkenntnisse der Studie eine Zusammenstellung an Handlungsempfehlungen an Unternehmen zum Einsatz von Tools der Onlinekommunikation in Krisen ab.
Die vorliegende Arbeit leistet im Wesentlichen also Folgendes: Sie bewertet im theoretisch-konzeptionellen Teil in einer bis dato nicht vorliegenden Systematisierung einzelne Tools der Onlinekommunikation, ob diese im Krisenfall für die Kommunikation mit den Anspruchsgruppen geeignet sind. Diese Bewertungen werden im Folgeschritt mit dem tatsächlichen Einsatz von Onlinetools in der unternehmerischen Krisenkommunikation verglichen und entsprechend praxisrelevante Handlungsempfehlungen für Unternehmen abgeleitet.

In his romances he achieved symbolical journeys into the land and its past. In that way he gave his books their power and popularity.
But what are the peculiarities of his African landscapes? How has he constructed them? And what are their functions?
In my term paper I am going to have a detailed look at these questions. I am going to start with an overview of the European image of Africa in the 18th and 19th century and how this had an influence on Haggard’s writing. My next section deals with Haggard’s stays in South Africa and how he converted these first-hand experiences in his romances. Then I am going to deal with the characteristic elements Haggard uses in order to draw his African landscape. Then follows an analysis of one of his most famous romances, “She”, according to these elements. Can all of them be found within the story?
My last point is a summary of my individual results and I am going to draw a conclusion in which I try to answer the questions asked above.

Examensarbeit aus dem Jahr 2001 im Fachbereich Pädagogik - Medienpädagogik, Note: 1,0, Universität Bielefeld, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die musikalischen Antihelden der Gegenwart sind eine Fortentwicklung der frühen musikalischen Jugendidole. Ihre Düsterkeit und Aggressivität spiegelt meist gesellschaftliche Missstände und die aus ihnen erwachsenden Gefühle von Unzufriedenheit wieder. Oft sind sie sogar Konsequenz der unangenehmen bis traumatischen Lebenserfahrungen der Musiker/-innen.
Es gibt sehr unterschiedliche Gründe, warum Jugendliche sich zu ihrer Musik (oder zu anderen Aspekten ihrer Kunst oder Persönlichkeit) hingezogen fühlen: Manche bewundern ihre Innovativität in Bezug auf Musikstil, Aussehen, Videotechnik oder in anderen Bereichen, andere sind schlicht von ihrem musikalischen Talent beeindruckt. Manche wollen sich durch die Musik, die sie hören, und durch ungewöhnliche Outfits, zu denen sie sich von den Antihelden inspirieren lassen, von ihren Eltern abnabeln und einen Schritt in Richtung Autonomie machen. Andere befassen sich intensiv mit den Aussagen und Texten der Musiker/-innen, weil sie das Gefühl haben, dass sie etwas Wichtiges über die Gesellschaft zu sagen haben. Wieder andere können sich mit ganz bestimmten Antihelden deshalb so gut identifizieren, weil sie gerade Probleme und Krisen bewältigen müssen, die denen ähneln, die diese Antihelden in ihren Songs beschreiben. Manche suchen in den Fangemeinden und Subkulturen oder den Phantasiewelten der Antihelden Ausgleich zum Alltag, oder soziale Bindungen, die sie an anderer Stelle nicht finden. Andere nutzen die Mitglieder der Fanwebsites als Publikum für ihre Gedichte, Bilder oder Kurzgeschichten. Manche wollen vielleicht bloß beweisen, dass sie sich ohne Angst mit den erschreckenden Bildern und Inhalten der Antihelden befassen können, oder dass sie die Wahrheit über die negativen Aspekte der Welt, die von Antihelden bevorzugt besungen werden, ertragen können (vgl. Bostic et al. (2003))
Es gibt für jugendliche Fans viele Möglichkeiten, Antihelden für sich positiv zu nutzen, und keinen Grund zu der Annahme, dass sich Jugendliche von ihnen zu gewalttätigem oder selbstzerstörerischem Verhalten verleiten lassen, ohne zusätzliche – von den Antihelden unabhängige – Gründe dafür zu haben.
Unter Umständen können Antihelden und ihre Fangemeinden sogar als Rückhalt in problematischen Lebenssituationen dienen.
