Die Angst vor einer kommunistischen Bedrohung aus dem sowjetisch-geführten Ostblock wuchs zunehmend. Das führte unweigerlich zur Spaltung Europas und letzten Endes zum Kalten Krieg. Europa teilte sich in zwei Lager, in dem sich die Anhänger und Vertreter des Warschauer Paktes1 und die Staaten der NATO gegenüber standen.
Die NATO, als eine internationale Organisation, die das militärische Bündnis europäischer und nordamerikanischer Staaten verwirklicht, steht für „North Atlantic Treaty Organization“. Der Nordatlantikvertrag wurde am 4. April 1949 von den Gründungsstaaten2 unterzeichnet und ist im Wortlaut bis heute unverändert. Der NATO-Hauptsitz befand sich von 1949 bis 1952 in Washington D.C., anschließend in Paris und residiert nun seit 1967 in Brüssel.3 Den zwölf ursprünglichen Gründungsstaaten traten 1952 Griechenland und die Türkei, 1955 Deutschland4, 1982 Spanien, 1999 die Tschechische Republik, Ungarn und Polen, 2004 Bulgarien, Estland, Lettland, Litauen, Rumänien, die Slowakei und Slowenien und letztlich 2009 Albanien und Kroatien bei.5 Die politischen Ziele der NATO sind, neben der gemeinsamen Verteidigung im Kriegsfall, auch das gewährleisten der Freiheit und Sicherheit der Mitglieder durch militärische und politische Mittel. Hauptziel bleibt jedoch immer die Erhaltung des Friedens.
Fundamental für die NATO war bereits der am 17. März 1948 unterzeichnete „Brüsseler Vertrag“. Er diente als Prävention vor einer erneuten Hegemonialmacht und schloss Belgien, Frankreich, Großbritannien, die Niederlande und Luxemburg zu einem Bündnis kollektiver Selbstverteidigung zusammen. Gleichermaßen vereinigte er wirtschaftliche, kulturelle und soziale Aspekte der jeweiligen Länderpolitik.
Die skandinavischen Staaten waren völlig unterschiedlich vom Zweiten Weltkrieg betroffen, worauf im Folgenden noch näher eingegangen wird. Nach Ende des Krieges strebten jedoch alle Staaten einem gemeinsamen Ziel entgegen: Neutralität und Unabhängigkeit. Um sich klar von den aufkeimenden Konflikten der beiden Großmächte im Westen und Osten zu distanzieren, schlug der schwedische Außenminister Östen Undén6 1948 die Idee eines skandinavischen Verteidigungsbündnisses vor. Bereits im dritten Kapitel der Genesis wird vom Sündenfall des Urpaares Adam und Eva berichtet, deren Fehltritt als „Erbsünde“ auf alle kommenden Generationen übertragen wird. In Religion in Geschichte und Gegenwart wird das christliche Schuldverständnis darauf zurückgeführt, dass „in den Universalreligionen […] ein zentrales Hemmnis der religiösen Einheit des Menschen mit der Wirklichkeit des Heiligen erlebt“ wird. Der Gläubige nimmt also eine Diskrepanz zwischen der eigenen Fehlerhaftigkeit und der in der Vorstellung existierenden Vollkommenheit alles Göttlichen wahr. Während im Alten Testament die verschiedenen Begriffe für Schuld zahlreich sind und sündiges Handeln vielfach definiert ist, zeichnet sich das Neue Testament dadurch aus, dass keine feste Terminologie für Schuld besteht und Synonyme für Schuldigkeit nur sparsam vorkommen. Abschnitte im Neuen Testament, in denen Schuld oder Sünde zur Sprache kommen, haben häufig den Zweck, den positiven Umgang Jesus‘ mit den Sündern zu verteidigen. Die Möglichkeit des Sündigens ist also zwar eine ständige Gefahr für den Christen, im Neuen Testament überwiegt jedoch „die Freude über die Sündenvergebung den Eifer, ein tiefes S.nbewusstsein hervorzurufen.“
Im Barock erreicht die Beschäftigung mit dem Thema des wahren Glaubens und der Buße durch die Zustände während des 30- jährigen Krieges einen Höhepunkt. Bei den von 1618 bis 1648 andauernden kriegerischen Handlungen ist zum ersten Mal im deutschen Raum die Zivilbevölkerung massiv betroffen. Sekundäre Folgen der Plünderungen durch die verschiedenen Heere sind Hunger, Epidemien und eine brachliegende Landwirtschaft. Die Literatur der Zeit beschreibt nicht nur, sondern greift sowohl kritisch als auch propagandistisch ein. Die Autoren der Zeit bemühen sich, Begründungen für die furchtbaren Leiden zu finden, die große Teile der Bevölkerung erdulden. In ihrer diametralen Anlage eines Entwurfs von Sündenfall und Erkenntnis mit dem Hintergrund des 30-jährigen Krieges faszinieren die beiden für den Barock programmatischen Schriften Lebensbeschreibung der Erzbetrügerin und Landstörzerin Courasche von Hans Jakob Grimmelshausen und Das friedewünschende Teutschland von Johann Rist.

Trotzdem bleibt das Auf- und Abwerten einer Währung ein kraftvolles politisches Instrument, das einem Land bei außerordentlichen Störungen sehr nützlich sein kann. Der Verzicht darauf stellt Kosten einer Währungsunion dar.
Länder haben also abzuwägen, ob sich für sie eine Währungsunion wohlfahrtssteigernd oder wohlfahrtsmindernd auswirken wird.
Das ist von der wirtschaftlichen und politischen Situation aller einer Union beitretenden Länder abhängig.

Vor einiger Zeit durfte ich bei der Planung und Mitgestaltung einer Vertonung von Psalmen und dazu passenden Prosatexten sowie einzelnen Psalmausschnitten mitwirken. Die Vorbereitung war langwierig aber letztendlich fruchtbar. Zum zentralen Thema der Gesamtaufnahme wählten wir die Psalmen. Nach Fertigstellung des Programms wurde das Cover unserer CD mit dem Zitat: „Psalmen sind wie der Sternenhimmel: Je länger man hinsieht, desto mehr entdeckt man“, versehen. Dabei interessierte ich mich schon vor diesem Projekt für das biblische Buch der Psalmen. Nun war mein Interesse mehr denn je für diese geweckt worden. Da allein das Lesen der Psalmen nicht genügt, entschloss ich mich im Rahmen meiner Seminararbeit für eine ausführlichere Befassung mit der Kunst dieser Dichtung.
Ebenso wie die Geschichte der Astronomie fasziniert mich die Dichtkunst der Psalmen, denn auch diese konnten im Laufe der Jahrhunderte mehr und mehr in ihrer Bedeutung erfasst werden. Heute kann sie als vollständiges Buch gelesen, gedeutet, bewertet ja vor allem auch persönlich als Trost und Ermutigung angewendet werden. Der Titel soll hiermit das Wunderwerk der Natur, insbesondere das Weltall, welches auch oft von den Psalmisten bewundert wurde und zur Inspiration des Gebets anregte, mit dem Thema der religiösen Dichtung vereinen.
Leider musste ich meine Arbeit stark eingrenzen, da sie sonst den gegebenen Rahmen gesprengt hätte. Bewusst gehe ich nicht auf die kritisch- historische Methode der Theologie ein. Denn ich betrachte die Psalmen als Kunstwerke ihrer Zeit auch für unsere Zeit gültig,- wenn auch manchmal anders fungierend, als eine „wertvolle Entdeckung“. In diesem Sinne werde ich im ersten Kapitel grob auf die Form, Sprache und Geschichte der Psalmen in ihrer Bedeutung und Entstehung eingehen. Dabei werde ich immer wieder Zitate zur Untermauerung mit einfließen lassen. Im Zweiten Kapitel gehe ich zum Einen auf die erfüllte Prophetie des Messias als die „Große Entdeckung“ ein. Dabei beschränke ich mich auf den Freundesverrat und die Kreuzigung des Messias. Zum anderen werde ich die im Ersten Kapitel angekündigte Aktualität der Psalmen weiter ausführen und mit der neutestamentlichen Sichtweise des Apostels Paulus abschließen.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2009 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Ältere Deutsche Literatur, Mediävistik, Note: 2,0, Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Universität Greifswald, Veranstaltung: Mittelalterliche Hermeneutik, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Im Rahmen des Hauptseminars „Mittelalterliche Hermeneutik“ beschäftigten wir uns im Sommersemester 2008 mit dem Physiologus. „Der Ph[ysiologus] ist ein Zeugnis frühchr[istlicher]- m[ittel]a[lterlicher] Spiritualität, welche die geschaffene Natur als Kosmos von Zeichen verstand, durch die Gott zum Menschen spricht.“ Dieser Satz fasst jenes Werk zusammen, das im Mittelpunkt der vorliegenden Arbeit steht. Durch seine Wirkungsgeschichte, jahrhundertelange Weitergabe und reichhaltigen Handschriften hat diese Schrift eine Sonderstellung in der Geschichte der Literatur. Im Mittelalter hatte der Physiologus neben der Bibel einen sehr hohen Stellenwert und galt lange als Vorbild bei der geistlich-moralischen Exegese und Naturlehre. Die kleinen Geschichten wurden als „Berichte realer Naturgegebenheiten“ betrachtet und schon in der Spätantike wurden sie durch Augustin „als ‚unwahr‘ im naturwiss[enschaftlichem] Sinn erkannt“. Dies schränkte jedoch nicht Geltung des Physiologus ein. So behielt er lange seine Vormachtstellung als „‘Buch der Natur‘, in dem der Mensch die Offenbarung Gottes ‚lesen‘ kann“.
Die Bezeichnung Physiologus stammt von dem griechischen Wort , was Naturforscher oder Naturkundiger bedeutet. Was es aber genau bedeutet und wie dieses Werk beschaffen ist, soll in der folgenden Arbeit untersucht werden. Dafür wird zunächst über allgemeine Charakteristiken und die Entstehungsgeschichte des Physiologus informiert. Danach liegt der Fokus auf dem altdeutschen Physiologus, aber insbesondere auf der Millstätter Reimfassung, wie sie von Friedrich Maurer herausgegeben wurde. Diese ist auch Ausgangspunkt für die spätere Analyse der Tiere in dieser Arbeit. Jedoch sollen in einem weiteren Kapitel vorher noch die Grundlagen der Schriftsinne der mittelalterlichen Hermeneutik beleuchtet werden.
Den Abschluss bildet das fünfte Kapitel, das eine kurze Zusammenfassung dieser Arbeit geben wird.

About the Author

Shai Held is Dean and Chair of Jewish Thought at Mechon Hadar, an institute for Jewish prayer, personal growth, and Jewish study which he co-founded. He is winner of a 2011 Covenant Award for excellence in Jewish education, and Newsweek has twice named him one of America's most influential rabbis.

A Welcome Publication!

Clear and beautifully written. A welcome addition for all of us who have struggled to understand Heschel and his place in religious thought. Professor Held has a commanding knowledge of a broad range of theological, philosophical, rabbinic and biblical material and is able to digest and transmit all of this for the serious reader through clear and artful prose - a joy to read.

Clarifies Heschel's meaning and place in 20th-century thought

Having just tasted it, I know already that I'll give it 5 stars! The handful of pages I've read (around page 200) beautifully clarify the meaning of Heschel's book "Man's Quest for God," with which I have wrestled since reading it last summer. The perfect holiday gift to this Christian prayer-aspirer from my wife's brother's Reform Jewish family. Many thanks to you (and all our Abrahamic forebears and fore-thinkers)!
