About the Author
Martin H. Krieger is Professor of Planning in the Sol Price School of Public Policy at the University of Southern California and a Fellow of the American Physical Society. He has taught at Berkeley, Minnesota, MIT, and Michigan and has served for many years on university promotion and tenure committees. He is author of Doing Physics (second edition, IUP, 2012), Urban Tomographies (2011), Constitutions of Matter (1996), and Doing Mathematics (2003), among other books.

Extremely helpful and thorough

It is very unfortunate that a previous reader left a poor review of this book due only to an issue generated by amazon's delivery service. This is an excellent book and would certainly be helpful for anyone in academia, from undergrads considering graduate school to tenured professors. I found it to be extremely helpful--the best academic how-to book that I have ever come across, and I have read at least 30. Krieger is clear, direct, and quite funny; I do wish that there were models and specific examples (of a cover letter, or an editorial solicitation, etc) because I have seen these in some other books and found them very helpful. However, given the disciplinary scope of Krieger's work--it really is for anyone--I understand that samples might not be so helpful or applicable ...
In any case, this is the best academic manual I have ever read; I'm learning more than I did in many years of schooling and am aware of issues my advisors never cared to mention so this is an extremely helpful book
