About the Author
Dr. Joseph J. Collins is a professor of strategy at the National War College in Washington, D.C. A retired Army colonel, Collins has served in the Pentagon, acted as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Stability Operations, and taught as the United States Military Academy at West Point. He holds a doctorate in political science from Columbia University and has written a number of books on Afghanistan.

Skyhorse Publishing has taken my book, given it a slightly has different title, did a new cover, and are now charging you for what you can download for no cost from the National Defense University (NDU) Press. In fact, the NDU Press has a special pdf file that you can download to your kindle or Nook, for free. The book was not copyrighted so that government folks going to Afghanistan could download it for free or even make copies of their own. It is currently being issued to individuals --- military and civilian --- who are being deployed to Afghanistan. My name is Joseph J. Collins and I wrote this book, and even Skyhorse Publishing says that I did.
