Essay aus dem Jahr 2010 im Fachbereich Geschichte Europa - Deutschland - Nachkriegszeit, Kalter Krieg, Note: 1,0, University of Sheffield (German Department), Veranstaltung: Geschichte und Gesellschaft der DDR, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Es gibt viele verschiedene Gründe für das Scheitern der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik, doch der wirtschaftliche Bereich hatte mit Sicherheit großen Einfluss. Politik, Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft sind in jedem Staat miteinander verzahnt. Da die politischen Ansichten der Führungsspitze nicht von der ganzen Bevölkerung gleichermaßen mitgetragen wurden, hatte das System mit zwei großen Problemen zu kämpfen: das Informations- und das Anreizproblem. Weiterhin startete die DDR unter schlechten Bedingungen, da dieser Teil Deutschlands schon vor dem Krieg wirtschaftlich auf eine Zusammenarbeit mit dem westlichen Teil angelegt war. Dies versuchte die Sowjetunion auszugleichen, doch in den 80er-Jahren war auch dies nicht mehr in einem ausreichenden Umfang möglich. Weiterhin hatte die DDR extrem unter dem Wirtschaftsembargo der CoCom zu leiden.
All diese Aspekte sollen in diesem Essay beleuchtet werden, wobei ich mich hauptsächlich auf die Monographien „Von Plan zu Plan“ von André Steiner und „Wirtschaftswunder DDR“ von Gernot Schneider beziehen werde, da sie beide eine sehr gute Gesamtdarstellung liefern. Um den Kontrast zwischen Anspruch und Realität zu verdeutlichen, habe ich einige Plakate aus der DDR-Zeit eingefügt, die für sich sprechen.
