Und die grammatischen Zeiten ändern sich auch, möchte man dem als Sprachwissenschaftler hinzufügen. Dylan benutzt in seiner Liedzeile eine grammatische Form, die man als Verlaufsform oder ‚progressive form‘ bezeichnet. Eine ähnliche Form existiert auch im Deutschen, gemeint ist die Konstruktion sein + am + Infinitiv, z.B. Ich bin gerade am Arbeiten.
Das vorliegende Buch befasst sich mit dieser deutschen Verlaufsform und untersucht anhand eines Vergleichs mit der historischen Entwicklung der englischen Form, in welchem Stadium der Grammatikalisierung sich die deutsche Form heute befindet. Ein Fragebogen zur Akzeptabilität einzelner Sätze, die die Verlaufsform realisieren, wurde entwickelt und an Studenten und Dozenten deutscher Universitäten verschickt. 588 Personen äußerten sich zu den grammatischen, semantischen und pragmatischen Restriktionen der Verlaufsform.
Es wird u.a. erläutert, welcher Unterschied zwischen Aspekt, Aspektualität, Aktionsarten und Aktionaliät besteht. Auch die Konkurrenzkonstruktionen wie im … begriffen sein, beim … sein, dabei sein, etwas zu tun kommen zu Wort. Eine detaillierte Analyse des deutschen Verbsystems zeigt dessen Lücken auf und ermöglicht eine Einordnung der Verlaufsform in das vorhandene System.
Das vorliegende Buch zur Verlaufsform von Ariane Slater ist eine leicht gekürzte und in der neuen Rechtschreibung verfasste Ausgabe der Dissertation aus dem Jahre 1997, die unter dem Geburtsnamen der Verfasserin, Ariane Reimann, erschienen war. Heute arbeitet die promovierte Sprachwissenschaftlerin beim Bundessprachenamt in Hürth. Ihre sprachwissenschaftlichen Schwerpunkte liegen in den Bereichen ‚kontrastive Grammatik‘ und Militärsprache.

About the Author
Ariane Slater studierte Germanistik und Anglistik an der Universität Bamberg und promovierte bei Prof. Dr. Helmut Glück (Schwerpunkt Kontrastive Sprachwissenschaften). Von 1990 bis 1992 absolvierte sie ein zweites Studium in Comparative Literature an der University of South Carolina, U.S.A., das sie mit einem M.A. abschloss. Von 1993 bis 2000 unterrichtete und übersetzte sie in London, zunächst als Lektorin an der University of London, später freiberuflich als Übersetzerin und Dozentin für englische Sprachwissenschaften am Roehampton Institute London. Bis 2008 leitete sie die Sprachschule ‚Speak English' in Bamberg und befasste sich schwerpunktmäßig mit Sprache bei der Marine und beim Militär. 2008 wurde sie Reserveoffizier bei der Bundeswehr, nahm als Ausbilderin für Englisch und Dolmetschen an einem Auslandseinsatz der Bundeswehr teil und arbeitet seit 2009 beim Bundessprachenamt. 2014 wird ein umfassendes Buch zum Thema ‚Militärsprache' erscheinen.
