Ich denke, dass man beispielsweise die Theorien Mead und Parsons gut gegenüberstellen könnte, denn sie überschneiden sich in zentralen Themen und Meads Theorie wurde benutzt, um die von Parsons zu kritisieren. Obwohl Mead zeitlich gesehen früher gewirkt hat, wurden seine Theorien erst nach seinem Tode bekannt, deshalb ist eine Kritik an Parsons möglich. Eine Gemeinsamkeit der beiden Theorien wäre beispielsweise, dass man die Orientierung am generalisierten Anderen mit dem Sozialisationsprozess bei Parsons gleichsetzen kann. Der große Unterschied der Theorien besteht darin, dass Parsons eine Differenz zwischen Individuum und gesellschaftlichen Erwartungen als Defizit interpretiert und Mead es hingegen als Voraussetzung für die Veränderung von Gesellschaft und Identität sieht. Außerdem geht es auch bei Mead um Rollenhandeln („role taking“, „role making“). Da Parsons den Begriff der Rolle geprägt hat, würde ich Mead Parsons anschließen.
